huh?

with the kick off of ICLW yesterday i have been visiting a shit-ton of blogs. (more than a scoatch, but less than a ga-jillion).

anyhoodle, what the fuck is up with all the crazy word verifications that i have to put in when i want to leave a comment like a good blogger?

what in the name of all that is holy is hgkeiytoet? or mnxjilj? why the crazy colors and motherfucking fonts that make me question my soberness? did that thing just spell out go fuck yourself? does anyone else have this problem? no, just me. am i really the only one who has trouble figuring out what the hell i am supposed to type and then have to retype it 5 times? yes. i am the only asshole. ok, fine.

i'd like to make a suggestion to whoever makes up those ridiculous letter combos. pick some words i am more familiar with and have no trouble spelling like infertile, pastry, fellatio. hell, even pastry fellatio would be better. throw me a bone and stop wasting my time with all the re-types. in-fucking-furiating.

and, has anyone actually tried the handicapped symbol that is beside the word? i can't muster the courage. thinking about it makes me all itchy. for some reason i picture lights, sirens and a short fat bald man with a bull horn yelling the letters at me.

that is so funny I think it is to keep out spam. If my blog ever generates enough traffic to get spammed I will feel special. The handicapped symbol does not work I just checked on YOUR blog lol.

Hand held up in hesitation. I've hit the handicapped symbol. It will recite the letters/numbers out loud, then you have to type them in. It's never worked on my computer.

LOL-I am a re-typer too.

Over from ICLW. Nice to meet you!

Visiting from ILCW and Thanks so much for the laugh about the verification! I'm with you, heck I have trouble spelling real words! Best Wishes on TTC and PNP! (I'm a peds RN x 26 years, so Major Kudos!) P.S. Can't wait to try the handicapped symbol.

It's not just you. Most of the verification words are okay for me, but a few times I haven't been able to read them at all.

I have hit the handicapped symbol. I don't know if this is what it is supposed to sound like, or if my computer is on LSD, but there is a woman reading numbers out loud slowly (different from the impossible letters) over a background of psychedelic noises. Sort of like the sounds of a tape being played at reverse speed (for those of us old enough to have used cassette tapes).

Try it! Compared to the handicapped audio, the verification words are easy! I don't know how the visually impaired are ever supposed to comment on a blog post.

Returning your comment for ICLW.
Thanks for the laugh.

I am constantly retyping my "word verification". I have also started to copy my comments because I know that at some point I am going to hit the wrong button and lose my comment.

I'm retarded about the comment thing too. Your current word is xgkmlxn. I too will get them wrong and have to retype, but have never hit the wheelchair even though I'm tempted.

You've inspired me. I clicked it. OMG. How can you understand that? It sounds like the whispers in the woods from Lost.

And why are blind people blogging? I mean, I get the concept, but if I was blind, even with the technology to maybe read the entry too me out loud, how do I know where to click the wheelchair on the page???

And now I'm laughing my ass off, because I'm imagining a robot voice reading your blog out loud.

Well. I must say. With the last comment I left I had to spell out 'KRAUPH', which to me sounded mysteriously like CRAP! For this comment I have to type UTBTNZ (not quite as interesting). (though your difficulty reading things may come from Grad School)(just finished my ANP as well).

Hi, over from ICLW,

Hahahahahahaha! I love the handicap bit. Perfection.

I have the same damn problem and it drives me crazy! No one spams me yet so I haven't had to turn it on. I am dreading the day that I do.

(Just had to re-type it in order to post this, haha)

Too funny! Yeah, it is a pain. I got a spam commenter once and for awhile was moderating all of my comments, but then after awhile I stopped. Also funny, I never even noticed the symbol before, let alone thought about clicking on it. Now I am curious, very curious... Though other of your commenters have explained what will happen.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for your kind words. Thank you also for sharing your experience. We try to find some comfort in our daughter not having to suffer longer than she did, even though we would give anything to still have her here with us.

I am impressed that you are an pediatric ICU RN. Wow. That must take a lot of love, care and patience.

Anyway, I am glad to have found your blog and wish you the best on your journey to have a child.

PS - I was just about to post this when I realized that your blog has word verification too! ;)

My internet connection is kind of slow today, so I hit your site and started reading your first post before the background loaded, not knowing whether a background was ever going to load. So I was wondering why you were ranting about the word verification fonts and colors when your whole post was light colored text on a white background.

Then it loaded and I felt like a doofus.

That said, one of the things that I love love LOVE about the blog software that I use is that I can set it so that the word verification can be enforced on only the old posts, and I can set the number of days. So new stuff that people are actively commenting on doesn't need it, and the old stuff that is more likely to get spammed has it.

I HATE Those things.... umm did you know that we have to do them to comment on your blog? W

well, here I go, trying to do it on YOUR blog to send this comment...

I get really nervous when I have to type in word verfication cuz it feels like a test. What if I get it wrong? Will I fail? Here it goes now and I....

I hope I don't give away my geekiness here... but those are CAPTCHA's. Acronymn for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart".

This prevents spammers from putting those automated nonsense to your blog commments.

It uses visual/audio perception and since only humans can read/hear the graphic image of the letters (those are not text), it is able to determine if the comment is being left by a human.

I have seen somewhere where they are using real words or combinations of real words for captcha's and it does get easier. It's still a pain though but that's the current technology.

My captcha for this comment: seyap

Oooppsss...didn't quite get that captcha right...

Here is the next one: wrzyhnj

You are so funny, I love your spunk AND anger. Now whenever I miss you I can just log in and feel like I am getting a little hug from you. You know in your last blog when you talk about pregos complaining, I don't have your stresses and I still want to punch them in their uteruses. Stupid breeders!!! Love you! DW
